Pretty straightforward question: which overall do you find more enjoyable: Old or New World of Darkness?
In my opinion, New WoD's mechanics are without a doubt an improvement from the old, considering how poorly many of the Old WoD games balanced against each other. Even within systems, balance was a huge issue. In Werewolf the Apocalypse, several of the Fera (non-wolf lycanthropes) at char gen could do disgusting feats that not even an elder Garou could do. And Vampire the Masquerade, no matter what clan, had what was essentially a God-stat (generation).
However, I'm seeing many different tabletops and LARPs try to hybridize the two systems together: New WoD system, Old WoD storyline. Because, by and large, Old WoD had a very intricate, enveloping setting, and each game had a unique challenge to it in of itself. The lore, culture, etc (summed up: the fluff) was very impressive. I've played many different WoD games, and overall I think the characters I make for Old WoD tend to have a much clearer sense of purpose and motivation than New WoD characters, owing to the fact that there's usually in Old WoD something in the horizon to look towards, or at least some glimmer of hope, however faint.
What are your thoughts?
